Valves

As I mentioned in the early part of the blog the original Mullard valves were destroyed over the years. I often wonder whether they would still work if they were still in one piece. I doubt they would.

Anyway how to replace them. I looked at what is advertised as Mullard NOS (new old stock). They are still available but at in excess of £200 for a matched pair of EL84's that was totally prohibitive. After all it is a renovation rather than a restoration.

Searching on Amazon I found the EL84's supplied direct  from them as a pack of four and matched. The ECC83's and the GZ34 were advertised on Amazon but supplied by ampvalves.co.uk.  Again the ECC83's were supplied as a matched pack of four so I have a spare. The valves are all manufactured in Croatia under the brand name JJ Electronics. There are some very positive postings regarding the quality and sound but it will be a while before they are used in anger.
