The Chassis Base

The original Stereo20 was not designed to be on show. It was proposed for it to be contained in a cabinet out of sight. To this end Leak did not provide a base or an on/off switch. The unit was secured into a cabinet using little plates that fixed to the chassis at four points that in turn were fixed to the cabinet of choice. This is not very safe as the full 300volts HT rail is readily accessible to fingers...

So a cover is required on safety grounds. I will not be hiding it in a cabinet. I decided that a perspex base would be a good solution. I chose a 5mm bronze tinted perspex, this allows the internals to be visible. I routed the edges and added slots to enable ventilation. The panel was then screwed to the chassis using the original holes and I added some perforated metal strips over the slots. Finally felt feet were added to disguise the screws and to raise the chassis by a couple of millimetres to allow ventilation.
