The Chassis II
Due to the condition of the paintwork on the chassis and labels being obliterated in sections I decided to have the chassis and transformer cheeks powder coated.
Before I had it done I searched for a font to use to reproduce the labelling. After many hours I settled on a standard font in Photoshop. This was Geneva at font size nine. This was a very close match except for the figure nine. I printed out the three row valve legend in a text box and then used transform tool to adjust height and kerning to match that on the chassis. This was then used a template to build up each set of legends.
For the Leak logo on the front I used a photograph as a background in Inkscape. I then traced the outline and filled. Finally it was scaled to fit.
To place the labels on the chassis I sourced a waterslide filmless process. This is DrDecal based in Australia. Delivery was quick. The labels are laser printer only but they are film less so they leave just the text/image on the surface.
I chose RAL1035 (RGB 144 131 112) as the colour. I used Stockport Powder Coating. The results were good so I started work on reproducing the labelling. Once the labelling was complete I had the chassis clear coated to finish the job.
Whoops, and unforseen issue with powder coating is that it does act as an insulator. Most of the fixings on the Leak are self tapping screws secured from underneath. This leads to the points of the screws protruding on top of the chassis but it also acts as a mechanical electrical earth!
